Changes for Game 14:

  • Minor adjustments to various ship, planet and anomaly stats.
  • Minefields now are much cheaper and Terrans now possess a Cloaked Mine Field instead of the usual minefield.
  • Terran Vipers are now even better than before.
  • Scan Probes have had their sensor power reduced.
  • Probes have had their sensor power reduced.

All ships have had their Shield and Hull regen values normalised.

Terran:

  • Mark I - 5 Hull per tick, 50 Shield Energy per tick
  • Mark II - 10 Hull per tick, 100 Shield Energy per tick
  • Mark III - 20 Hull per tick, 200 Shield Energy per tick

Bakani:

  • Mark I - 2 Hull per tick, 100 Shield Energy per tick
  • Mark II - 5 Hull per tick, 200 Shield Energy per tick
  • Mark III - 10 Hull per tick, 400 Shield Energy per tick

Etrib:

  • Mark I - 10 Hull per tick, 25 Shield Energy per tick
  • Mark II - 20 Hull per tick, 50 Shield Energy per tick
  • Mark III - 40 Hull per tick, 100 Shield Energy per tick

All stations have those values times 10.

Obviously some ships because of their nature have special values (ie. Light Hawk Wing). Some ships as a result may have more or less regen than previously.

Class Y planets are slightly more common.

Major Conflicts

Game 14 started off with the idea that smaller alliances would be better, after the boom of 2 large alliances in Game 12. To start, 3 alliances were made. 2 where small, and the other alliance was fairly big. The third Alliance was Starchaser, and it comprised of baiscally anyone who wanted to join and in the end grew to be up to 9 players. part way through the game, though, Winners, one of the smaller alliances decided that 3 players weren't enough, and the group gained 3 more.

The Winner's perspective

When the Game started, the 3 players decided that 3 was enough, and that they would survive on their own. Unfortunetly, in the start of the round, the leader of the alliance was attacked by several players at once, and decided that to protect himself, he would need more strong allies. This may have inticed neighboring empires to attack the Winner's alliance even more, becuase from their side, it seemed as if the attacks never ended, with at least two players from across the void singling out one player in the alliance and snatching planets from them.

The Starchaser's perspective

Starchaser was, as always, established so those that want to learn the game could join and get information from other players but it was also home to whomever wanted somewhere to belong, kind of like an "Anyone's Alliance". Members of Starchaser were keeping to themselves and being picked off at the usual rate, but some actually survived and learned some things about Voidwars, which is the ultimate goal of the alliance anyway.

Vermithrax was the only empire in the entire void that was not attacked by Dread Pirate Roberts in the round.

Other Alliance's perspective

Course of events

In the start, there were basically only 3 alliances, with Starchaser being the biggest. Starchaser held around 9 player compared to Winners with 6 and Inconceivable! with 2. As time passed more and more players dropped out of Starchaser becuase they were the easiest target, and were therefore being attacked the most. Evenentually Winners rose to the top of the list. Then with Starchaser out of the game, Inconceivable started to show it's face. The whole void decided that Winners was doing too good, so they joined forces. In the end Winners didn't loose a whole lot of planets, but enough so that Inconceivable made it to the top alliance with their players (all 2 of them) ranked in the top and second largest empires.

The Art of War

Mine feilds were a big part of this game with the introduction of cloaked minefeilds for Terran. This gave rise to the idea that probes could be used as bait for the mine to clear it before assalts were moved into position to attack a planet, much like they were used against Wasps since mines are basically just stationary Wasps. Unfortunetly there were a few bugs with the mine resulting in the majority of the probes being lost to planet fire, exponentially increasing the number of probes needed to wipe out a mine feild. The other thing noticed was the use of Plasma corvettes, laser fighters and scatter fighters to make a balanced fleet which could travel anywhere fast. It was introduced by the winner of the round.
